I am an absolute make-up novice. Hand me a brush and a detailed 15-minute instructional video and I still wouldn't be able to replicate the technique and precision of a professional make-up artist. That being said - simplicity and ease of use are the most important things to me when choosing a foundation.

I still use my fingers to apply foundation which yes I know - is as amateur as it gets. But the day will come when I learn to stipple, I swear. 

Foundation is a relatively new concept for me. Prior to foundations, I had tried many many different BB creams for many many years. In my mind, foundation was secondary to me simply because BB creams seemed to offer everything I could've wanted on my face - SPF protection, moisturizer, skin perfecting all-in-one. So for years I lived with humiliating pictures - the SPF in BB cream always creating a ghostly white cast in photos. (To this day I dread looking at them and my friends refuse to delete them.)

A year ago when my skin was a lot worse than it is now, I set out to find a foundation with great coverage. My acne scars had left me self-conscious and for me, heavy make-up was better than revealing my flaws.

MAKE UP FOR EVER is a professional make-up brand from Paris founded in 1984. Their high performance foundations are used all over the world in fashion shows and photo studios. The coverage can also be built depending on the occasion or simply for everyday use.

I use the Ultra HD Fluid Foundation in shade 120 (Y245 Soft Sand) in the fall and winter. My skin isn't as oily during those seasons so this foundation is a good option. It is okay to use in the spring and summer, but there will be blotting involved. There is buildable medium coverage. I typically use half a pump and dot the foundation along major areas including forehead, cheeks, nose, chin for an even spread. Do NOT rub as if you were washing your face - for me I use my index and middle finger and gently spread as evenly as possible. This foundation photographs really well and natural - just be sure to test a shade before and after your intended shade to see which works best for you. Generally, I don't need touch-ups for an everyday look. If I were to go out for a full day, I would most likely do a minor touch-up after 6 hours.
